Genre: Roamnce/Comedy/Drama
Release date: Dec 24
Director: Shafi
Cast: Mammootty, Lakshmi Rai
DID YOU KNOW? Shafi has earlier made two hits with Mammootty, Thommanum Makkalum and Mayavi. Chattambinadu is being distributed by the hero’s own production house, Playhouse.
STORYLINE: The story is happening in a village called Chembattunadu, where the fights between two wealthy families have been going on for years now. Both the groups brought in chattampis (goons) from neighbouring places and the land has now been christened, Chattambinadu. Vijendra Mallaya (Mammootty) is a wealthy man and a daredevil, who speaks Malayalam with a heavy Kannada accent. He comes to Chattambinadu and from then on, some interesting twists and turns starts happening.
REVIEW: If you’re a fan of Mammootty, you will love this film. Leave your brains back home and go for Chattambinadu to have two hours of entertainment. Things could have been better and the film is essentially a mishmash of films like Rajamanikyam, Madambi, Prajapathi and so on. Mammootty looks absolutely handsome with stubble and white kurtas. The script is perhaps the weakest part here. Manoj Pillai’s camera is brilliant and Alex Paul’s music is fine.
HIGHS: Mammootty
LOWS: The script and the lack of a strong storyline.
Verdict: 2.5 out of 5 (ENTERTAINING)
