Dir: Lal Jose
Cast: Fahadh Faasil, Samvritha Sunil, Gauthami Nair, Anusree
THE BASICS: Diamond Necklace is director Lal Jose’ attempt to be part of the new wave in Malayalam. He turns producer as well and to get some fast bucks, what he did was to do ‘in film branding’, where by some brands like a well-known jeweler was shown prominently in the film like a commercial. Gauthami Nair made her debut in Second Show while Anusree was spotted in a reality show.
THE PLOT: Arun (Fahadh) is a doctor based in Dubai, who is literally enjoying his life, king size. He flirts around with a nurse named Lakshmi (Gauthami Nair) and also with a designer, Maya (Samvritha Sunil). But his wayward lifestyle results in huge debts and things go horribly wrong as banks start taking legal action against his pending money.
Arun comes home and when the proposal for a marriage with a girl from a loaded family comes, he thinks that it will save him from imminent danger. He marries Kalamandalam Rajasree (Anusree), a trained dancer, who besides all the facade was not really rich. Arun is shattered.
THE REVIEW: No two ways about, there is a beautiful premise here. But the problem is that the makers couldn’t take it forward, beyond the basics. The main hindrance turns out to be the necklace angle, which could have been part of the deal with the sponsors. Scenarist Iqbal Kuttippuram and director Lal Jose fumbles to come up with a credible storyline to add the sequences to the original story. The result is that a promising story ends up as a boring one, soon after.
