Dir: Lal
Cast: Mammootty, Lal, Padmapriya, Kaniha
THE BASICS: Lal is playing the lead along with Mammootty in Cobra, besides scripting and directing it. The two had teamed up earlier in films like Thommanum Makkalum and Best Actor. He is directing Mammootty for the first time though.
REVIEW: Raja (Mammootty) and Kari (Lal) are non identical twins. Their relatives think that as kids they got changed during the time of their birth. But they share an amazing friendship and lives only in places starting with the sound ‘Ko’ to keep their named ‘Cobra’ intact. They are looking for two sisters to get hitched to, as they can call themselves ‘co-brothers’ after that.
In fact, they find such a pair soon, Sherly (Padmapriya) and Annie (Kaniha), the daughters of a struggling businessman named John Samuel (Lalu Alex). From wooing those girls to getting the custody of a hospital after a boxing match, things look ridiculously silly all along.
With a storyline that could look amateurish to the core, Lal gives the feeling that he has lost his charm, in a big way. Mammootty tries everything to be funny, from making gestures like a comedian to say lines in bad English and bad Malayalam, but he is a bit too old to play a ‘romantic’ hero.
Lalu Alex hams it up and the heroines have nothing much to do. Venu’s camera is okay but Alex Paul’s music jars big time.
