Dir: Lal Jose
Cast: Dileep, Kunchacko Boban, Daniela Zacherl
THE BASICS: Dileep has been the lucky mascot for hit director Lal Jose. The two have done some memorable films in the past and Spanish Masala has been set in Spain. The heroine Daniela Zacherl is a professional dancer and though she is playing a Spanish girl in the movie, she is actually from Austria. Kunchacko Boban, who had done a big blunder in his career by refusing to do a role in Classmates, became friends with the director and was the hero in Elsamma enna aankutty. Now he plays the baddie in Spanish Masala!
THE PLOT: Charlie (Dileep) is a struggling mimicry artiste who decides to illegally migrate to Spain. But as you would have expected by now, he lands in deep trouble and the heroine Camilla (Daniela Zacherl) comes to him, like an angel. She is blind and is the daughter of a Spanish diplomat. Surprise, she can speak Malayalam, thanks to her ayah. The villain, Rahul (Kunchacko Boban) makes his entry towards the interval but it is his voice that brings Charlie and Camilla close.
THE REVIEW: Thoroughly old fashioned and disturbingly simple, this film fails to make much of an impact. Not sure why Lal Jose found this story by Benny P Nayarambalam worthy enough and even stranger is the reason why Noushad, the producer, took the whole cast and crew to Spain and reportedly spent Rs.7 crores for this misadventure?
